Daikaiju Monogatari looks like another DQ-clone but it's actually a very good game. Story-wise there's isn't much to tell: evil Demon King Fat Badger (yes it's really his name) wants to take over world of Shelldorado and it's inhabitants call for a hero from another world (aka player). And now hero travels through Shelldorado in order to defeat Fat Badger, eventually finding out about existence of a much more dangerous enemy from outer space!

Gameplay here is mostly like in Dragon Quest: you travel from town to town, clearing dungeon after dungeon. Combat is turn based and reminds me more of Phantasy Star, especially visually, and even macros are here, though random encounters are way too frequent. Characters won't join you like in other rpgs, instead you have a set of characters you can add to your party in tavern with few chars have to be recruited and requirements for one character is way too complex. There's whole 12 playable characters each with their skills and mechanics in this game with 4 can be in your active party. Daikaiju Monogatari is also a non linear game, you can do most of content in any order.

Graphics are awesome! Bright colors, detailed character and monster sprites and cool backgrounds. I also like character design, heroes might look silly but it really fits this game. Music is also good, noting special though, just a bunch of tracks that fits game.

Daikaiju Monogatari was a pleasant surprise to me. I started it expecting nothing and was blown away by how good it actually is. Highly recommend to play it!

    Final stats:

    Game playtime: 18h 27m

    Total playtime: 9d 11h 27m

This is also last game I found an old savefile for so far. Next one is going to be game I completed now.
