A direct sequel to Paladin's Quest, this game retains all the features of the first game along with some QoL changes. This time, the game takes place on Eltz, the second moon of the planet Raiga. You play as Farus, a supposedly god-like being who awakens from a deep sleep and is tasked with finding four gems in order to trigger the Great Unification.
Compared to the first game, the story is much better and includes some cool twists, though it also feels unnecessarily long. First, you spend time looking for four stones, then for eight seals, and after your seals get stolen, you have to collect them again - this time on Lennus. Yes, you even get to visit the world from the first game.
Farus is the only mandatory character this time, the other three party members are mercenaries, who can now level up and swap equipment, though they still cannot learn new magic. Unlike Chezni, Farus cannot use all magic naturally. Instead, you equip elemental spirits that grant different spells. You can also gain new elements by defeating spirits in battle (in the first game, you simply bought them in towns). Magic now levels up through use by defeating enemies instead of just being cast.
The graphics also received a major upgrade, with the game looking much better overall. The music is good too, though I personally prefer the battle themes from the first game. The battle system is almost exactly the same as in Paladin's Quest, but now every item can be used for special effects. This game also has what may be the biggest city I’ve ever seen in a JRPG.
I liked Lennus II much more than Paladin's Quest, and it’s a shame that the planned third game was eventually canceled. We also never got an official localization, which is not too surprising given how bizarre the game’s visuals are. Honestly, I’m more surprised that the first game was released in the West at all.
